Oh. It’s me.
Recently, I was an official Guest Author, which to be honest, is still a little mind-blowing. I got to read ELLA AND PENGUIN and talk about revision with a class of fifth graders.
I found it slightly daunting to figure out what to say—especially when I’m in the midst of wrestling draft #1,001 of a work-in-progress, so I’m not sure how much of an expert I am at anything at the moment.
But that’s another post.
Once we got rolling, it was pretty great. I had fun. The students had great questions. And I thought of some things to include next time.
I also got to hear some of the students' stories—about mysterious shoes, quests for dragons and the magical journeys of a hot dog. All around, it was a blast.
It’s exciting to be in new territory, playing the role of Author, even as it’s awkward leaves me awake with inane worries at 3 a.m.
As we roll closer to the publication date, I’m looking forward to all the new stages in the next year that leave me all Samantha-Baker-in-the-church-doorway.
