BOOK AWARDS! HOORAY FOR BOOK AWARDS!

My heart is full of book love today—even more than usual. The ALA Youth Media Awards were announced this morning (Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, etc.). I love to see these works lifted up so even more people will find them.

In a way, medals and winners are silly. Any book that spoke to you “won.” And naming winners could imply that the rest of the books are…non-winners.

But I don’t think that’s true. I think a big ol’ book party helps all the books.

Sure, the spotlight will be trained on those shiny stickers, but the glow will extend to the rest of the shelf and even help illuminate this whole section of the book store.

And really, who doesn't love a party, especially a BOOK party hosted by LIBRARIANS at, like, 6 a.m.?

So, well done, committee members. Congrats to all the medal winners. Hooray for all the honor winners. And Huzzah for everyone who put a story in the hands of a child this year.

You win the most.
